I know it's not going to happen but I sure would have loved to see him play with Travis Konecny on the 67's...and bring gold back to Canada at the WJC...

Monahan's staying for sure. Tied for 2nd in team scoring, playing on the top PP unit. His Ice time's steadily increasing, his defensive play is getting stronger. There's absolutely no reason to send him back.

If he makes your team better, you play him.

IMO he makes the Flames a better team? Who would dress instead of him??? Jackman?

That said, I could envision the Flames entertaining sending Monahan down before the 40 game mark as an attempt to extend his RFA eligibility, but that’s another topic for another day.

No flippin' way they would keep him for 40 games then send him down....that's not a way to treat your future franchise star. 1 year of eligibility is jack poop in my opinion. He will be locked up just like all the Oilers "stars" before he get's anywhere close to free agency!

Good read I'm glad they decided to keep him up. Unfortunatly I missed the game last night. I was a bit of a Colbourne critict as I figured he was going to steal Monahan's spot on the team and didn't like the way he started but the last couple of games he has started to look like he is playing with more confidence and I think has a spot on this team. I still say that we really don't have a 4th line center lots of 2nd and 3rd's

Oh and that symbol below your name made me spit up a little in my mouth

The Back-To-Back games really screwed you!!! If it weren't for that, Iggysbff would be a Flames fan for 48 hours.

Remember, its a business to those who make the calls...extending his RFA status by one year could make a difference down the road. Tough to say right now, though.

The reason not to keep him is better assest management. Send him back and don't burn a year on his ELC and don't give him games played towards UFA status.

The Flames are off to a good start but damn, both their goalies are putting up <.900 sv% right now. The Flames probably will be last in the west. Might as well tank.

But on the other hand he is probably fun to watch and gives the fans hope, and hope sells tickets to watch a bad team I guess.

I'd still send him back.

Likely the correct decision to keep up Monahan. Despite CGY saying they don't want to rush young players like some clubs (Oilers) have, he has shown to be NHL ready physically and mentally.

The next "correct" decision to be made is to give more starts to Ramo. Then, rotate in some of the D kids into Butler and SOB's spots.

Hey Colin (or anyone else that wants to chime in), PHO seems to have a plethora of NHL ready D prospects. What might it take to grab Rundblad? Would a straight up Cammi for Rundblad be fair?

Wrong... He is going to develop way more with the Flames this year considering how many minutes he is playing. There is nothing left for him to learn in Ottawa. The World Juniors however I feel he needs to attend

That's what Oiler fans have been saying about Calgary's start this year all along...
